- Qualitative chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA) for Hepatitis C IgG antibodies. Reactive samples undergo further testing to establish status, diagnose chronic hepatitis C infection or test recipient at set intervals following body fluid exposure incident. This assay is available routinely Mon to Sun. This test is not UKAS accredited

Detected, Not detected, Equivocal A negative HCV IgG does not exclude acute hepatitis C infection as seroconversion may be delayed. If you consider the patient to have risk factors for HCV infection, please send a repeat clotted blood sample for hepatitis C antibodies, and telephone the laboratory to discuss HCV RNA testing (EDTA blood sample)

- 2.5 - 5ml Yellow Top Serum Separation Tube (SST) Clotted Blood (for serum).
- Storage and transport
- Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
