- Quantitative chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA) for the quantification of Hepatitis B surface antibodies in serum. Used to determine vaccine response and natural immunity. This assay is available as a screening or follow-up test Mon to Sun. This test is not UKAS accredited

Post primary vaccination course in immunocompetent individuals: >100 mIU/ml, further testing not needed, re-inforcing vaccine at 5yrs. >10 - <100mIU/ml, 1 further primary vaccine and re-inforcing vaccine at 5yrs, further testing not needed. <10mIU/ml, non-response to vaccine course, check for markers of current infection. Repeat vaccination course and testing 4 months post 2nd complete course. Individuals with levels of <10 mIU/ml post-vaccination requires Hepatitis B immunoglobulin if exposed to Hepatitis B.

- 2.5 - 5ml Yellow Top Serum Separation Tube (SST) Clotted Blood (for serum). Note: If using Electronic Patient Record (EPR) please order "Hepatitis B surface Ab-mIU/ml".
- Storage and transport
- Place labelled sample in a sealed sample bag and send to Central Specimen Reception (CSR). To prevent sample haemolysis please store samples in refrigerator if a delay in sending samples to CSR is unavoidable.
