Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD) Antibodies

Description
The assay detects antibody to the 65kD isoform of GAD. This autoantibody is seen in both type 1 diabetes and stiff person syndrome. GAD 65 is a pancreatic beta cell antigen. This assay is also performed with ZnT8 and IA2 antibodies (see Diabetic Autoantibodies). These autoantibodies are tested for by enzyme-linked immunoassay and is only able to be requested as a complete panel.
