- Description
- Quantitative faecal immunochemical testing (FITQ) is a non-invasive stool test that measures the concentration of human haemoglobin in faeces. The test is performed on the OC-Sensor Pledia analyser using a latex agglutination immunoassay.
- Clinical details
FITQ is used to aid the investigation of lower gastrointestinal symptoms and the assessment of the risk of colorectal cancer. It detects small amounts of blood in stool that may not be visible to the naked eye. FITQ can be used in primary care to help determine which patients may require further investigation, including referral for lower gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Faeces collected into an OC-Auto Sampling Bottle
- Special sample instructions
Faecal sample must be collected using an OC-Auto Sampling Bottle. Samples received in a plain universal container cannot be processed for FITQ analysis.
- Storage and transport
FITQ samples are stable at room temperature for up to 7 days and at 4°C for up to 28 days. Samples should be received by the laboratory within 7 days of collection.
