HLA Typing for Drug Hypersensitivity
- Description
- Possession of some specific HLA alleles are associated with adverse reactions when a patient is treated with a number of drugs. A variety of methods and technologies are used, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), PCR-SSP and PCR-SSOP (Luminex) to determine HLA Class I (HLA-A, B, C) and/or HLA Class II (DRB1/3/4/5, DQB, DQA, DPB, DPA) alleles. The method of testing and the locus of HLA tested will depend on the potential drug reaction under investigation and the clinical details provided.

- The associations between HLA genes and adverse reaction to treatment with a variety of drugs are well established. Knowledge of a patients HLA type can assist in confirming a hypersensitivity reaction, or may be used to screen a patient prior to commencing treatment The list provided below is not exhaustive - please contact the laboratory to discuss any additional association queries.
