State-of-the-art pathology services
Pathology First is a partnership between SYNLAB UK & Ireland and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, supporting Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals, Southend Hospital and more than 200 GP practices. We provide testing services to around 867,000 people.
Our purpose‑built hub laboratory in Basildon delivers routine and specialist testing through a hub‑and‑spoke model. This allows hospital‑based Essential Service Laboratories to focus on urgent tests requiring rapid turnaround times.
Scale, efficiency and impact
We carry out 56,000 tests every day across 1,500 test types, and our Phlebotomy services operate across our network to blood samples from patients using NHS and community hospital services.

Our laboratories are accredited by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS).
