SYNLAB UK & Ireland:

SYNLAB acquires Synergy

Published: 2nd November 2016

SYNLAB, the leading provider of medical diagnostic services in Europe, has today announced that it has acquired Synergy Health Laboratory Services including Genon Laboratories (jointly “SHLS”) from Synergy Health Sterilization UK Ltd for an undisclosed amount.

This acquisition extends SYNLAB’s repertoire of testing services in the UK, as well as complementing the range of specialist testing across the Group’s wider European lab business, deepening the expertise and customer offering.

SHLS is a leader in workplace drug and alcohol testing based in Abergavenny, Wales. SHLS is CPA accredited in pathology and has UKAS accreditation in toxicology. Genon Laboratories, based in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, is a market leader in testing for allergens in food. Genon is also UKAS accredited. Together SHLS employs around 160 staff with expert knowledge in both drugs of abuse and food testing. The current Managing Director, Chris Fullerton, will join the SYNLAB UK Executive team.

As part of the deal, SYNLAB expects to continue to investment in both laboratories to support growth, expand the repertoire of services and leverage its wider expertise across Europe to expand the commercial opportunities.

Dr Bartl Wimmer, CEO of SYNLAB Group: “SHLS is positioned in the expanding markets of specialist allergen, drug and alcohol testing. While it fits the business in general as SYNLAB Group is already active in these markets, the acquisition at the same time perfectly adds to the offering of SYNLAB UK, creating exciting new growth opportunities.”
