Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG)
At SYNLAB UK&I, our Vision is to be recognised as the UK’s leading laboratory diagnostics organisation. We want to be known for providing high quality, efficient and sustainable diagnostic services.
To help deliver our vision, we published our ESG Framework and Roadmap, which outlines how we will achieve our ESG Goals and become more sustainable. Latest documents below.
These priorities align with the wider SYNLAB Group sustainability strategy, from which the UK framework is derived. The Group also reports annually on progress and key ESG metrics, covering all SYNLAB countries including the UK. Latest version is accessible here
Under three pillars – Green, Care and Citizenship – the framework and roadmap show how we aim to deliver our goals over the next three years.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
Our purpose, vision and values are key to uniting our colleagues across many locations and services. However, while the collective identity they provide is hugely important, the benefits of being able to draw upon a variety of lived experiences, views and approaches has been proven time and again.
By putting people at the heart of what we do, we are prioritising the creation of an environment where colleagues can thrive by feeling included, engaged and empowered to contribute. Simply put, it formalises how we recognise and celebrate the many unique and rich characteristics of our colleagues, customers, partners and the communities we serve.
Our DEI strategy
In 2024 we launched our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy. It is a three-year plan from 2024 through until the end of 2026, developed in conjunction with a specialist external advisor, during a six month review period in 2023. During this time, we collected feedback from senior stakeholders and colleagues across the organisation and linked it to external benchmarking, our existing initiatives and the needs of our employees and customers.
We aim to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can belong, develop, thrive and collaborate. We value and seek diversity to enhance our approaches to innovation and excellence. We apply equity in how we support our people, enabling them to fulfil their potential and develop their careers, and how we work with the communities we serve to improve their quality of life and wellbeing.
Our strategy is focused on the 9 Pillars of Inclusion:
- Age and Generation
- Sex and Gender
- Disability and Neurodiversity
- Mental Health
- Parenthood
- Race, Ethnicity and Nationality
- Religion and Beliefs
- Sexual Orientation
- Socioeconomic Background
